World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is looking to widen their reach and bring more pro-wrestling action to television viewers in the wake of All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) emergence. The new promotion is threatening WWE’s dominance in North America and the world’s most popular pro-wrestling promotion is planning a big announcement to make an impact of their own.

WWE is seeing a drop in ratings in recent months and they are looking at different avenues like hosting a RAW Reunion show recently, while also bringing back some legends like Goldberg, Trish Stratus to peak further interest. And AEW’s success in its two pay-per-view shows and their imminent television debut is seeing the WWE push harder to quell their influence.

AEW will air its first live televised show on Oct. 2 from the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. with further tapings planned in other cities. It is expected to air on Wednesdays on a weekly basis and will compete with WWE’s Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live shows that currently air on Monday and Tuesday nights respectively.

WWE chairman Vince McMahon is keen to have the upper hand and is reportedly planning a counter programing move to stunt AEW by announcing NXT’s arrival to television during this week’s RAW segment. NXT is part of the WWE brand that showcases upcoming talent before pushing them on the main WWE roster and thus far it was only being aired exclusively on WWE Network.

According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, WWE is planning to announce the arrival of NXT on USA Network in a similar two-hour format possibly on Wednesday nights. The report claims that there is another significant announcement related to the television deal which will also be revealed on RAW on Monday night.

PW Insider’s Mike Johnson reports that Fox Network, with whom WWE signed a multi-year deal to air its SmackDown Live show on Friday nights from October onward, was also interested in airing NXT but USA Network is said to have come in late with a proposal that interested the promotion more. NXT staff were said to have been informed about the potential of NXT becoming a two-hour show and other changes occurring shortly.
