  • McIntyre using Lesnar's submission hold hints at a potential angle between the two
  • McIntyre and Lesnar could battle to determine the No. 1 contender for Reigns' Universal Championship
  • Both men faced each other for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 last year

Drew McIntyre wants gold around his waist again, and the understanding is that he has his eyes set on Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

However, directly going after "The Tribal Chief" is a bit complicated since there is an existing storyline involving another former champion in Brock Lesnar.

With three big names in the mix, it appears a great way to resolve it is to see who truly deserves a shot at Reigns’ Universal Title.

It appears pundits have spotted a potential easter egg when McIntyre faced and won over Mustafa Ali during the October 29 edition of WWE SmackDown.

In a one-sided match, the Scottish wrestler won over Ali with a Kimura lock. It was an unusual finisher for McIntyre, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer (via Michael Perry of Ringside News) suspected that the move was done for a reason.

The Kimura lock is a maneuver that Lesnar has used in the past. Meltzer suggested that it is something to tease a potential rivalry happening at some point.

Lesnar does have a score to settle with McIntyre. "The Beast Incarnate” lost to "The Scottish Psychopath" at WrestleMania 36 last year.

A lot has changed since then. When McIntyre was drafted to WWE SmackDown, it was always believed he would be on a collision course with Reigns.

But with Lesnar tied to a $1 million fine and an indefinite suspension, an angle with McIntyre makes sense.

A plausible scenario would see the two do battle for the rights to be Reigns’ No. 1 contender, something WWE fans would certainly love to see.

But then again, it would not be surprising if Reigns ends up facing both Lesnar and McIntyre at the same time for the belt.

Lesnar and McIntyre are unlikely to settle their row easily should that be booked in one of WWE’s upcoming shows.
