A future WWE Hall of Famer is set to call it a career. That’s what the company wants fans to believe, at least.

Rey Mysterio is set to have a retirement ceremony on the June 1 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Considering the circumstances, it’s unlikely that Mysterio is actually ready to stop wrestling.

The most probable scenario is that WWE is using the ceremony to advance Mysterio’s feud with Seth Rollins. The former Shield member attacked Mysterio a week ago, and WWE announced on social media that Rollins would be the “host” of Mysterio’s retirement ceremony.

Rollins has emerged as the top heel on “Raw.” It makes perfect sense that he is set to enter a storyline with Mysterio, the ultimate babyface over the course of a career that’s spanned more than two decades.

It was less than a year ago that Mysterio’s potential retirement was used in a storyline. The 45-year-old said he was considering retirement in August, but he noted that his son, Dominik, convinced him to keep competing.

Dominik assisted Mysterio in his Survivor Series match against Brock Lesnar, and the son of the legendary wrestler is training at WWE’s Performance Center. Mysterio might not actually call it quits until he has a match with his son as a member of the main roster.

“I most definitely would love to share the ring properly with him in a Tag Team Match or a 3 vs. 3, but I definitely would love to potentially share the ring with him one day, “ Mysterio told Sportskeeda in December.

“I think, after that happens, I can retire peacefully and say that getting to share the ring with my son was the best feeling in the world.”

Mark Henry has the most famous “fake” retirement ceremony in WWE history. After announcing he would call it a career on the June 17, 2013 edition of “Raw,” Henry attacked John Cena to set up a WWE Championship Match at Money in the Bank a month later.
