KEY POINTS

  • WWE's new head of creative is proving his value late in the year
  • Triple H has earned the fans' trust after putting on must-watch shows
  • AEW CEO Tony Khan is urged by fans to focus on his storytelling

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) CEO and co-founder Tony Khan made it known last week that he wanted to win the Wrestling Observer's sought-after Best Booker award for the fourth year in a row, but he may finally have competition in the form of Triple H.

WWE quickly regained the trust of their fans in a major way since having Triple H rise from an executive vice president role to becoming the head booker.

In just a little less than three months as the company's play caller, fans saw the return of former NXT stars like Karrion Kross, Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Dexter Lumis plus Braun Strowman.

However, how he and the company handled the return of Bray Wyatt at Extreme Rules this past weekend deserves a ton of credit.

The company had been teasing fans with the image of a white rabbit coupled with QR codes that lead to cryptic videos, and while the entire world already knew it was Wyatt, WWE was still able to make it an interesting story to follow because of all the mystique and intrigue surrounding the performer and character.

The investment proved to be a smart one on their end as having him close out the show, with Triple H pulling off his now-signature twist, had fans blowing up social media while those present in the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia could not help but chant their excitement.

Triple H fully understands that while there are corporate stakeholders that he needs to please, the true stakeholders are those who were responsible for getting them to this level in the first place: the fans.

In contrast to AEW and Khan, their strong run at the start of the year has since been marred by the controversy that has distracted fans from the product that they are putting on camera.

The biggest one that they have faced thus far is that of the brawl that occurred backstage during the AEW All Out press conference which involved CM Punk, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.

Everyone involved then has since been suspended, but the after-effects continue to linger which led to Chris Jericho having a closed-door meeting with AEW talent about leaking backstage drama.

AEW has been a solid draw for fans thanks mainly to the work of guys like Jon Moxley, Wardlow and Jade Cargill, but these same fans would also argue that the pairing of Anthony Bowens and Max Caster of The Acclaimed is the most over act for AEW right now.

Despite all of his accomplishments in the industry while being relatively new to it, Khan still sought to address publicly the fans' criticism of how he is building his shows instead of staying silent about it and letting his work do the talking.

Khan might have his eye on the award, but Triple H is quickly nipping at his heels and could very well lose his grip on being the industry's best booker if he does not improve how he tells stories for their performers.
