WWE’s The Undertaker Appears At NBA Opening Night, Meets Cleveland Cavaliers [PHOTOS & VIDEO]
One of the biggest wrestlers in WWE was part of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ championship celebration on Tuesday night. Before the team received their rings for defeating the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, The Undertaker met with the defending champs.
With the Cavs set to open the NBA season at home against the New York Knicks, photos began to surface of The Undertaker wearing his full wrestling attire at Quicken Loans Arena about 90 minutes before game time. He was soon trending on Twitter as fans began to wonder what he was doing at the game.
The Undertaker’s connection to the Cavaliers began during last season’s finals. With Cleveland trailing Golden State 3-1 in the series and looking to make a historic comeback, LeBron James was photographed at practice wearing an Undertaker t-shirt. Much like The Undertaker’s character has risen from the dead in WWE, the seemingly finished Cavs came back to defeat the Warriors in seven games.
Speaking with Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, The Undertaker said he had no previous relationship with James, but there was a “mutual respect” between the two.
The Undertaker hasn’t wrestled since WrestleMania 32 in April, and there had been fears that his WWE career could be over after he was seen walking with crutches. But The Undertaker appeared to be moving around fine on Tuesday as he greeted the likes of Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and other Cavaliers players.
The Undertaker wasn’t the only WWE star in attendance. His wife and former WWE diva, Michelle McCool, also went to the game, as did the widow of WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior.
James made headlines when he was seen wearing an Ultimate Warrior t-shirt as the Cavs returned to Cleveland after Game 7 in June. Many fans believed the NBA Finals MVP was intentionally trolling the Warriors by wearing the shirt.
Cleveland started the new season with a victory, defeating New York 117-88.
