FOX just announced the renewal of “The X-Files” for Season 11.

According to TV Line, the upcoming season will have a total of 10 episodes, which means that Season 11 will have four more episodes compared to Season 10. As of late, not much information about Season 11 has been released except for the fact that it will premiere sometime in the fall. Production for “The X-Files” is expected to kick off in June.

“The X-Files” Season 11 will continue to feature David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Mulder and Scully, respectively. Series creator Chris Carter will serve as executive producer for Season 11, according to Deadline.

David Madden, president of FOX Broadcasting Company, released a statement revealing the actual reason why they decided to renew the series. “Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why ‘The X-Files’ has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mudler and Scully uncover in this next chapter of ‘The X-Files,’” he said.

Meanwhile, Fox Television Group CEO and Chairman Dana Walden already hinted on the renewal of “The X-Files” Season 11 last year. While at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in August, Walden said that they want the sci-fi series to have more than six episodes in the future. “It was really the limitations of David and Gillian and Chris’ schedules… It was just trying to coordinate a time where they all cave out a period to be in Vancouver,” she said.
