‘The X-Files’ Spoilers: Will Season 11 Start And End With Mythology Episodes?
Next year’s Season 11 of “The X-Files” might also be sandwiched by two mythology episodes.
According to TVLine, there are rumors circulating that the upcoming season of the Fox series will be bookended by heavy mythology episodes written and directed by series creator Chris Carter much like last year’s revival.
At last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, series star David Duchovny was asked by IGN if Season 11 would be laid out like Season 10 where the mythology episodes were at the start and end of the season and the standalone episodes were in between. While Duchovny said that he has no idea whether that’s the plan for the upcoming season, he did say that he would assume that “that’s the way to do it.”

Meanwhile, during the same interview, Duchovny revealed that one of major disadvantages the show had in Season 11 was the fact that it was only comprised of six episodes. “I think the handicap of the last season with only six episodes was just that — six episodes,” said the actor who plays Fox Mulder on the series. “So much ground had to be covered even in the first two [episodes], which was reiterating or repeating or reminding people of the show and [its] issues … and the characters and their issues. It was a lot of treading water that had to be done to satisfy both old and new viewers. And by the time we did that we were already almost halfway through what we were doing.”
But because the network ordered 10 episodes for Season 11, Duchovny is confident that the upcoming season will be a lot better. “I think now that we have ten [episodes], obviously, there’s going to be a little bit of recap, a little bit of refresher — I’m assuming. … But once we handle that, then I think we’re off and running for a good nine and a half episodes,” said the two-time Golden Globe-winning actor. “This is gonna be great. It will be more relaxed. I think it will be a better season.”
Besides Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who plays Dana Scully on the show, Mitch Pilleggi is also set to reprise his role as Walter Skinner next season.
“The X-Files” Season 11 will premiere midseason on Fox.
