FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has shared some positive news on center-back Ronald Araujo after he was stretchered off the field Tuesday.
Araujo suffered a head injury after colliding with teammate Gavi during Barcelona's 3-1 win over Celta Vigo in the La Liga on Tuesday. Camp Nou witnessed some scary scenes as Araujo collapsed just an hour after the kick-off. The Uruguayan defender first received lengthy treatment on the pitch before he was taken to an ambulance.
"First team player Ronald Araujo has suffered a concussion and has been taken to hospital for further tests," confirmed Barcelona in an official release.
After the final whistle, Xavi confirmed that Araujo was "out of danger."
"The doctor has told us he is conscious. He will spend the night in the hospital but he is out of danger. The doctor said we shouldn't worry, that he will spend the night in hospital as a precaution, nothing more," Xavi was quoted by BBC Sport.
Memphis Depay opened the scoring at Camp Nou with his 30th minute-header, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a brace for Barcelona. Despite the victory, Xavi wasn't impressed with his side's performance against Celta Vigo.
"Honestly it was not a good game, we didn't play well. After the red card we played well, we had passion, but 11 vs. 11 we suffered. It's a very important win, especially when you don't play well. At least we competed. We need to keep going, this is not the way but at least we won," said Xavi, according to Barca Blaugranes.
It was Barcelona's 21st win in the 2021-22 La Liga and Xavi's side is currently placed second in the table with 72 points with three games remaining. Barca's next La Liga outing is a trip to Getafe on May 15.
