Xbox Exec Says Thursday's Xbox Games Showcase Will Reveal Never-Before-Seen Games

At this Thursday’s Xbox Games Showcase that is part of Summer Games Fest, expect to see some games that have not been screened for the general public as of yet.

With both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 already revealing their respective controllers and consoles, and with neither side blinking so far as revealing what the suggested retail price for each will be, the battle lines now move to what games each will be carrying.

This tends to be the case for any console battle in the first place, and it can often be the main deciding factor that prospective buyers take into consideration when choosing one console over the other.

While Microsoft’s last Xbox showcase event drew criticism for not featuring any actual gameplay footage, ScreenRant notes that it did provide fans with first looks at several new titles like “Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2” and “Yakuza: Like A Dragon,” along with further looks at such games as “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.”

A second event was then announced for July, promising to focus on more first-party exclusives like “Halo Infinite” and “Psychonauts 2.” Now, it would seem that some additional surprises await those tuning in on social media or watching the livestream.

Over the weekend, Xbox marketing executive Aaron Greenberg retweeted a message from Summer Games Fest organizer Geoff Keighley about the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on July 23. Greenberg then added that there will be a number of new games revealed for the first time during the event’s Pre-Show, which will be streamed on YouTube at 11:00 a.m. EST / 8:00 a.m. PT.

Despite having a massive headstart on the PS5 by revealing the Xbox Series X at The Games Awards back in December 2019, Microsoft has since been overtaken by Sony. The Future of Gaming event that Sony streamed in June not only revealed what its next-gen console will look like, it also displayed a lot of first-party titles.

Viewership for the PS5 showcase was so high that ScreenRant notes that Xbox decided to forgo any major announcements last month, with smaller rumors regarding a slimmer Series X model and additional information surrounding Microsoft's cross-generational Smart Delivery feature making up the bulk of Xbox-related news.

However, expect Microsoft to now attempt to recover lost ground with the Xbox Games Showcase. Microsoft executive vice-president of Gaming Phil Spencer has consistently stated his belief that his side has the better games in this battle and this Thursday’s stream could prove him correct.

There has been no official word yet on what other titles will be shown aside from “Halo Infinite,” but the mere idea of seeing new games is always an exciting prospect and even more so with the pandemic keeping most of us indoors.
