KEY POINTS

  • Microsoft recently unveiled the official name of its next-generation gaming console
  • Xbox Series X is the official name of Microsoft's gaming console
  • Phil Spencer claims Xbox Series X is more powerful than PlayStation 5

The next-generation gaming console from Microsoft, the Xbox Series X, may be more powerful than Sony's PlayStation 5. At least, that is what the recent comment of Xbox Boss Phil Spencer seemingly suggests. It appears that Microsoft had learned its lessons in the past when it released the more expensive but less powerful Xbox One.

Although Microsoft made it up with the release of Xbox One X, which is way more powerful than PlayStation 4 Pro, the damage Xbox One created is irreversible. Since the launch of Xbox One X, Microsoft has been banking on 'the most powerful gaming console' marketing campaign. And, it appears that Spencer and the rest of the team are now advertising the Xbox Series X to replicate the same marketing strategy they used with Xbox One X.

In a recent interview with Gamespot, Phil Spencer says, "Our goal has always been to build the most powerful console we can, and I think we're there." He also added, "We like leading in power and performance, and I feel like we're going to be there again."

The Xbox boss more than suggests that he believes the upcoming Xbox Series X will be the most powerful gaming console in the world by 2020. But, what Spencer is doing is expected because the gaming industry will not know what you're selling them unless you advertise. Whatever gaming console ends up being more powerful, the Xbox Series X is equipped with some serious configuration.

Microsoft's Xbox Series X packs AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, NVMe SSD, GDDR6 SDRAM, 120 Hz refresh rate, 8K capabilities, and a whopping 12 teraflops of graphics processing power. But, with great power comes great cost, and the nagging question right now is, how much will it cost? The upcoming gaming console is scheduled to arrive in the holiday of 2020.

So far, Microsoft has not revealed the precise release date and the price point of the Xbox Series X. Sony also claims that its next-generation gaming console is going to be the most powerful. But, until then, we will never know which between these two is more powerful at this point. We could only judge them following their official releases.
