Xiaomi has officially announced the Mi Max 3, which features a huge display and massive battery. The handset will be available in China on Friday and it will have a starting price of just 1,699 yuan (around $250).

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 comes with a 6.9-inch LCD display with a full HD+ screen resolution of 2,160 x 1,080. The display also features an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is a first in the Mi Max series. The handset is huge and is even bigger than its predecessor, the Mi Max 2, which arrived with a 6.44-inch display. The Mi Max 3 seems like an ideal handset for users who enjoy watching a lot of content on their smartphones. It should also impress a lot of consumers who want slimmer bezels, but don’t want deal with a notch on top of the display.

Inside, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. The device is also packing a massive 5,500mAh battery. This is an impressive feat considering that Xiaomi was able to pack such a huge battery inside the device’s thin 7mm chassis, as pointed out by The Verge.

The Mi Max 3 supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. Xiaomi claims that users will be able to charge the massive battery from zero to 71 percent in just an hour. The Mi Max 3 also has a bi-directional USB Type-C port, which should allow users to charge their other devices using the phone, according to Slash Gear.

On the back, the Mi Max 3 comes with a set of dual cameras: one with a 12-megapixel sensor and another with a 5-megapixel sensor. The camera module will support Xiaomi’s AI features, which should help in better image processing. Up front, the device has a single 8-megapixel camera for taking selfies.

As for connectivity, the Mi Max 3 supports Dual VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0. Although the handset is a mid-range device, it has one advantage over the flagship Xiaomi Mi 8 — the Mi Max 3 has a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the software side of things, the handset is running Android 8.1 Oreo straight out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9.5 running on top. GSM Arena speculates that the handset might also be updated to MIUI 10 and MIUI 11 in the future.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage will cost 1,699 yuan (around $250), while the 6GB/128GB model will cost 1,999 yuan (around $300). The device will be available in China starting tomorrow. There is no information yet if it will come to other regions.
