The opener of a three-game series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox was rained out on Friday and will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Sunday.

The two rivals play Saturday at Yankee Stadium and wrap up the three-game set on Sunday with a regularly scheduled game at 1:05 p.m. and the make-up contest at 6:30 p.m.

Boston, in the midst of a severe September slump, is clinging to a two-game lead for the American League wild card berth over the Tampa Bay Rays, with the Los Angeles Angels another game back in the chase for the last playoff spot.

The Yankees have already clinched a trip to the playoffs as AL East champions.
