Yellowstone National Park: The world’s first national park for adventure travel (PHOTOS)
As the South and final entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, US, opens for automobile travel on Friday, May 13, travelers can seek adventure in the region, which is famous for mountain lakes, canyons, rivers, waterfalls and hot springs including the Old Faithful Geyser.
The park’s North and West entrances were opened for bicycle riders on April 15, and the East entrance opened in early May.
Yellowstone offers various adventurous activities including camping, fishing, biking, hiking, boating and sightseeing. According to the official site of Yellowstone National Park, most of the facilities and services offered at the park will be available throughout spring. These include campgrounds around West Yellowstone, Madison, Norris and Mammoth Hot Springs and around lakes; lodges, gift shops, fishing, restaurants, cafeteria, general stores and more.
Weather forecast indicates fluctuating temperature with both winter and spring conditions in May that could restrict opening of certain attractions and activities to visitors.
Park service said that Mammoth Hot Springs, at the north end of the park, is currently the most ideal spot with some green grass, the first few spring flowers, bison calves and high temperatures.
“Most services and facilities will be open at Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful by May 13, but those planning an early season trip to Yellowstone should be prepared for limited services in many other locations for the next few weeks,” it said.
