Yolanda Hadid Returns To Social Media After 9 Months; Reveals Lyme Disease Relapse
Yolanda Hadid returned to Instagram after nine months and revealed that she struggled with depression followed by a relapse of Lyme disease.
Lyme is caused by deer ticks that consist of the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. The symptoms of the disease include rashes, joint pain and weakness in your body.
The 58-year-old TV personality shared a photo Sunday on Instagram and wrote on the photo, "Nine-month social media detox completed." In the photo, Hadid can be seen sitting on the coast in a white shirt and a hat.
Hadid explained in the caption that after coming back to social media, it’s time for her to "re-evaluate" her life. She revealed that after her mother named Ans van den Herik died in August 2019, she "struggled with depression followed by a Lyme relapse."
The mother of three noted that the "emotional stress and grief" created a huge impact on her immune system. She further shared how her "phone addiction" didn't help her and in fact, it started to consume a lot of time in her life.
Hadid also explained the negative impact of social media that made her feel lonely.
"It’s so easy to get lost in other people’s stories while forgetting to live and love your own. Texting is so much easier then [sic] picking up the phone and calling someone. we are all guilty of it," she added. "I realized that we are slowly starting to lose the art of communication and its creating a deep loneliness within us."
Hadid recalled how earlier people used to connect using pagers and flip phones, adding that mobile phones were just devices to answer calls without having a "constant pressure to answer emails, texts and many hours of scrolling through social media until your eyes hurt and often left uninspired."
The "1st & Ten" star further shared that this break was much needed as it broke the habit of picking up her phone 50 times a day. After the sabbatical from social media, Hadid revealed that she feels like "time has slowed down" and has become a lot "calmer."
"More time to just sit and actually read a book, time to reconnect with people, be creative and most importantly time with my family," she concluded. "I am excited to be back and see what you’ve all been up too."
Hadid shares three kids, Gigi, 27, Bella, 25, and Anwar, 23, with ex-husband Mohamed Hadid. The two were married from 1994 to 2000. She went on to marry Canadian musician David Foster in 2011 and got divorced in 2017.
