Fans of “The Young and the Restless” will have to take a day off from the Genoa City drama on Monday, Aug. 21, as the CBS programming schedule has been altered due to live coverage of the Solar Eclipse.

According to the network’s programming schedule for the day, there have been alterations to the usual lineup of shows to accommodate the coverage of the event, which is set to take place throughout the course of the afternoon.

Unaffected by the coverage are “Let’s Make A Deal,” hosted by Wayne Brady, and “The Price Is Right,” hosted by Drew Carey. The two popular game shows will still air in their 10 a.m. EDT and 11 a.m. EDT timeslots. The CBS News at Noon will also still air from 12 until 12:30 p.m. EDT.

The change occurs at 12:30 p.m., when “The Young and the Restless” usually begins to air. The show is preempted for the day due to the Eclipse, with “The Bold and the Beautiful” moving up one hour from its usual 1:30 timeslot to air instead. The show will end at 1:00, allowing for a CBS News Special Report about the eclipse, which will air until 3 p.m. Normal coverage resumes then with “Dr. Phil.”

“The Talk,” which is currently in re-runs until the new season begins, will also be pre-empted for the day due to the Eclipse.

The eclipse, dubbed the “Great American Eclipse,” is a big deal because it is the first total solar eclipse that can be viewed from the entire United States since 1979. According to NASA, an annular solar eclipse will visible from Northern California to Florida on Oct. 14, 2023, and the next total eclipse, which will be visible from Texas to Maine, won’t be until April 8, 2024.

The excitement over this event does mean that fans of “Y&R” will need to wait until Tuesday to see how various storylines will continue to play out on the soap.

During the most recent weeks of episodes, there has been some intrigue on the soap through the different corporate schemes between competing companies in Genoa City. Still after revenge against Billy (Jason Thompson), Jack (Peter Bergmann) is doing whatever he can to try and take over Brash and Sassy, even though it also means hurting Victoria (Amelia Heinle). The company has been in a bad state ever since Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) affair and scheme to destroy the hockey deal were exposed, which has made them vulnerable. Though they managed to find a way to fight back against Jack for now with a loan that Neil (Kristoff St. John) gave them, he won’t likely back down.

In fact, this week’s episodes are set to bring in even more drama as the battle wages on, with Jack more determined than ever to succeed. However, Billy will also be determined to come out on top, and the two brothers will declare war on another once and for all.

“The Young and the Restless” will resume on CBS with new episodes on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
