‘Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: The Abbotts Make A Shocking Decision About Dina
Her condition has not improved, and despite her having a seemingly lucid moment when she decided to take Graham off of life support, Dina’s continually deteriorating condition will cause her children to make a heartbreaking and painful decision about her future on the Monday, Jan. 22 episode of “The Young and the Restless.”
Prior to Graham’s (Max Shippee) return to Genoa City on the CBS soap, Jack (Peter Bergman, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Traci (Beth Maitland) had assumed care for Dina (Marla Adams), who was suffering from Alzheimer’s. While she was with them, she committed several crimes while in a confused state, including setting fire to the Underground, stabbing Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and kidnapping Christian. Shortly after, Graham returned and used his Power of Attorney to take her into his care again.
He then attempted to kill her by injecting her with a lethal compound, but in an unexpected twist, Dina got the upper-hand in their struggle, and he was the one who received the injection instead. When it became obvious to doctors he wouldn’t survive, Dina had a surprisingly lucid moment, and wound up allowing him to be taken off of life support. However, she has since returned to a confused state of mind, and it’s clear to her children that there is no longer anything they can do to properly care for her and help her.
After discussing all of their options, but agreeing that a regular facility is not something they want for their mother, Jack, Ashley and Traci will determine it may be best for Dina to return to Paris, where her initial doctor and a team of nurses can care for her in the comfort of her own home. In addition, Ashley’s daughter, Abby (Melissa Ordway) is there for work now, and can be the family point person who they can check in with when they want updates on how Dina is faring.
However, even if they do all believe it is best for Dina to leave town, it won’t make saying goodbye to her any easier, as it will truly hurt each one of them to know that they can’t actually care for her the way they hoped. Still, they will do what they deem necessary, and allow her to go, despite the pain it causes them.
“The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. EDT on CBS.
