‘Young Sheldon’ Gets Full Season Order At CBS After Successful Premiere
All it needed was one episode for “Young Sheldon” to prove that it’s one of the most promising new shows on CBS.
Just two days after it premiered, CBS announced that they will be ordering nine more episodes for the Iain Armitage-starrer. “Young Sheldon” Season 1 premiered with a total of 17.2 million viewers and a 3.8 demo rating on Monday night. According to TV Line, these figures made “Young Sheldon” the highest-rated comedy that was launched after “Big Bang Theory” since the “2 Broke Girls” premiere in 2011.
Unfortunately, “Young Sheldon” Season 1 won’t return to CBS until Nov. 2 when it lands its scheduled Thursday night timeslot. The series will still air right after “Big Bang Theory” Season 11. The Kaley Cuoco-starrer won’t also be back until then.
“Young Sheldon” centers on the life of a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper in 1989 in East Texas. He is living with his family, and has been accelerated to high school. This milestone does not make his older brother, Georgie (Montana Jordan) very pleased because he and his brother are now both in 9th grade. Sheldon’s twin sister, Missy (Raegan Revord), is somehow pleased because Sheldon’s acceleration means she no longer has to put with him in third grade.
At a young age, Sheldon has a very good relationship with his mom, Mary (Zoe Perry). But the same thing cannot be said about his dad, George Sr. (Lance Barber). Mary supports all of Sheldon’s weird habits including wearing a bow tie to his first day of school. George, on the other hand, doesn’t want to tolerate his son’s quirks.
But a touching scene was shared by the father and son tandem when George reminded Sheldon of the importance of minding one’s business. He revealed that he got fired from work for snitching on his colleagues, and Sheldon felt that his dad was sad over his firing. While saying grace, Sheldon decided to hold his father’s hand for the first ever before they enjoyed a decent meal with the entire family.
“Young Sheldon” will return to CBS on Nov. 2 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
