‘Younger’ Star Hilary Duff Opens Up About Struggles Of Mothers, Women In Hollywood

Hilary Duff has opened up about the hardships she has face as a woman in Hollywood.

Voicing her support for Jennifer Aniston, who, in a recent interview, said that women are seen by people as “useless” if they do not have children, the “Younger” star told the hosts of “The Talk” that she has faced similar criticism. Duff said that she feels like she was judged for marrying and having a kid early.

“I’m pigeonholed for being a mom,” the actress said. “Lots of women in the industry that don’t have a child yet are judged.”

Duff added: “We are the most in demand and the most desirable but the most judged and the hardest on one another. It’s so much scrutiny. Nobody cares about men’s personal lives as much as women’s.”

This is not the first time Duff has shared her thoughts about the struggles that women, mothers in particular, have in the entertainment industry.

“After I had Luca, I went out to, like, the breast-pump store — I was still huge — and I just had a comfortable outfit on,” Duff told Redbook magazine. “And the next day [in the tabloids] it was like, ‘Hilary debuts post-baby bod!’ And I was like, ‘That’s not a debut! That’s an errand!’ It was such a happy time that honestly I didn’t care; it wasn’t until later that I realized how mean and invasive it was.”

Despite the challenges, Duff told E! News that Luca, his son with ex-husband Mike Comrie, is her source of pride and joy.

“[Luca] is amazing and his personality is so bright and he is so sweet,” Duff said. “His little spirit… I don’t have words to describe it, but I am so proud of the kid that he is, and he is so well-balanced! I never thought having a kid would bring me such joy!”

Duff gave birth to Luca in 2012.​
