‘Younger’ Star Hilary Duff Shares What Made Her Agree To Portray Kelsey In The TVLand Show
Hilary Duff is best known for playing Lizzie in the Disney series “Lizzie McGuire,” but the actress is now doing more mature roles and is currently starring as Kelsey in TVLand’s “Younger.”
The transition from a teen star to mature actress was inevitable for Duff, and the need to reinvent herself was what drew her to the character she is portraying on TV. In an interview with Forbes, the actress shared what exactly made her say yes to the gig.
“I feel lucky to play a character who is very relatable,” Duff said. “What drew people to Lizzie McGuire was that she was relatable — how she felt and what she went through. Kelsey is very much that way, too. She’s a hard worker. She’s a hard player. She’s just making terrible choices in her personal life. That’s relatable to people in their 20s and older.”
Another thing that Duff shared about her character is that Kelsey is full of surprises. The actress said she can’t say exactly how her character would respond to certain events. One of the things fans are looking forward to in the show is Liza’s (Sutton Foster) revelation. When asked how her character would react to it, Duff said it “will be a big betrayal.”
While that will be dramatic, Kelsey will not find it as hard to move on after learning that she accidentally slept with her boyfriend Thad’s (Dan Amboyer) twin brother, Chad (Amboyer). Speaking of the arc, Duff told CBS News: “It’s huge, but seriously each one of our episodes ends with a cliffhanger this year, so that was just a little one. But it’s so gross and devastating to Kelsey that he does not stick around that long.”
