A calf that was stuck in the middle of a deep valley for days was rescued by youngsters amid heavy rainfall in India.

Footage shared online showed the rescuers using ropes to pull the calf up the hill. It reportedly took about an hour to bring the calf to safety.

The rescuers revealed they heard about the helpless calf from the villagers. The calf had been stuck for three to four days in the 300-feet deep valley on Malang Gad hill in Thane, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Youngsters rounded themselves up and came to the calf’s aid after receiving the information Monday morning, according to The Times of India. “On reaching the hill, we found that the calf was stuck in the middle of the valley and it was very difficult to go there,” a rescuer told the outlet.

One of the youngsters said they had to deal with low visibility, among other problems, due to the heavy rainfall and fog in the area, local media reported.

“After reaching near [the] calf, we first tied [the] calf with rope and later pulled it and finally managed to save the calf safely,” said Minant Pawshe, who was part of the group that came to the calf’s aid.

The video shared online captured the tied-up calf being pulled up the hill.

“Due to tough weather, the rescue operation was tough. But we managed to save the calf within an hour,” Pawshe added.

The calf, which had been hungry and distressed for days, tried to attack the rescuers at one point.

The youngsters were lauded on social media for bravely bringing the calf back to safety. They fed the animal and eventually released it.

A similar incident was reported in December 2021 after a rescue team in Massachusetts trudged through freezing water to help a horse that was trapped in ice. Members of the Warwick MA Fire Department entered the water and helped the horse out by breaking the sheet of ice. The horse was safely rescued and reunited with its owner, the fire department said.
