YouTube Superstar PewDiePie Speaks Up For Jenna Marbles, Slams Bullies

YouTube superstar PewDiePie rushed to Jenna Marbles’ defense after the latter social media celebrity announced her decision to quit the video-sharing platform.

Despite having more than 20 million subscribers, Marbles, whose real name is Jenna Mourey, revealed on Thursday (June 25) that she was leaving YouTube following the intense scrutiny she received because of old clips that have been deemed racially offensive. However, PewDiePie, who is the most-subscribed individual user on YouTube, defended her, saying that she is getting bullied, the New York Post reported.

“Jenna Marbles was one of the most genuinely good people on this platform and now she gets bullied off the site by mistakes that happened 8-10 years ago…Who cares?” PewDiePie said.

The YouTuber, who has a whopping 105 million followers, said that Mourey’s actions in the past don’t reflect who she is and the content she creates nowadays.

“Some things were more leviant [sic] a few years ago — that’s not to say it was right, but where the line is drawn from the past and today seems non existent. I thought the point was to learn from your mistakes and do better? We all have problems in our past, no one in the world is perfect,” PewDiePie added.

Without Mourey on YouTube, PewDiePie said the platform will be filled with “douchetubers” because people who care get thrown out. He further expressed his disappointment with the internet and how things have allegedly gone too far.

One of the videos Mourey got backlash for was created in 2011 and showed her in blackface as she imitates Nicki Minaj. Another one had the YouTuber rap about Asians, saying “Hey Ching Chong Wing Wong, shake your King Kong ding dong.”

After she got called out, Mourey uploaded a video titled “A Message,” where she apologized for her previous actions. However, it was met with mixed reactions.

Meanwhile, PewDiePie has also had his fair share of controversies. Three years ago, he shared videos that were deemed anti-Semitic, resulting in Disney scrapping a very lucrative deal with him.

Then, PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, also dropped the N-word in the past while he was playing “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” and things got tense, Forbes reported.
