YouTuber James Charles Says That Uber Driver Threatened To Assault Him
Controversial beauty YouTuber James Charles allegedly had an incident with an Uber driver in Orlando on Thursday night. According to Charles, the driver threatened to harm him and other passengers.
Charles, 20, posted about the incident on Twitter, speaking directly the official Uber account: “hi! one of your drivers in orlando just called my employee & I [expletive], [expletive], & threatened to hit us. please contact me as soon as possible.”
Uber then replied, saying: “We take this very seriously. Please send us a DM with your email address and phone number so we can connect ASAP."
“Just sent. Thank you,” Charles responded.
As press time, it was unclear if Charles’ incident has been taken care of. Charles also hasn’t released any other information on what happened.
Us Weekly noted that Charles was in Orlando for Playlist Live, which runs until March 1. Despite the reported Uber threat, Charles is still listed as attending the event and has been promoting it online.
Charles has 4.8 million followers on Twitter and 16.9 million subscribers on YouTube. The latter platform is where he garnered up most of his fame by posting beauty and makeup tutorials, some with celebrity collaborators. He is also well known for a few controversies.
Forbes talked about his most famous controversy, in which Charles and another YouTube beauty influencer, Tati Westbrook, had a very public feud which was ignited when Westbrook accused Charles of treating others poorly and, amongst other things, trying to “trick a straight man into thinking he’s gay.”
Charles recently got into even deeper trouble when he apparently impersonated a Latinx TikTok user named Adam Ray Okay on Snapchat. Us Weekly reports that he later deleted the video.
Apparently, the public scrutiny has built up over time and led to a lot of online harassers taking digs at Charles. Just two days before the alleged Uber incident, Charles posted candidly to his Twitter about not being liked by people.
