Zayn Malik Posts Cryptic Tweet Following Perrie Edwards Split, Promises New Music 'Soon'
Former One Direction band member Zayn Malik has finally broken his Twitter silence after calling of his engagement to Perrie Edwards. News of the couple’s split broke Tuesday, though it the breakup is believed to have taken place more than two weeks ago. Malik, 22, has been noticeably absent from social media since the split – that is, until now.
The RCA Records recording artist has yet to directly address the split, but sent a cryptic tweet Wednesday that had many wondering whether or not he was trying to give clues into the cause. As reported by E! Online, early Thursday Malik tweeted about how difficult it seems to please certain people, though he failed to mention anyone specifically. That tweet lead to several other posts, mostly about the progress of his forthcoming solo album. The U.K. native thanked his fans for their support and promised to get his first solo project done quickly, assuring them it would be “amazing.”
Edwards, 22, also took to the social media site after the breakup. On Wednesday, the Little Mix singer confirmed that she and her former fiancé had, in fact, called off their relationship and thanked her fans for their support. She wrote that she was doing everything in her power to stay strong, but was heartbroken. That same day, she and her bandmates did a promotional appearance at a Hollister in Glendale, California. Photos from the event, posted on the girl group’s Instagram, suggest that Edwards was in good spirits throughout.
News of the couple’s split broke Aug. 4. At the time, there was little information regarding the cause of their breakup, though it was thought to have been Malik’s idea. Edwards was said to be “devastated,” but putting on a smile for the sake of Little Mix’s promo tour. The singing couple had been engaged for two years and dating for three. While both have spoken out following the split, neither has shared any details regarding when or why they have chosen not to move forward with the marriage.
