Zayn’s ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ Music Video Is Proof He’s Movie Star Ready
Who’s the next big breakout action movie star? Zayn Malik.
No, you didn’t read that wrong. He’s conquering the world of music, and today he’s conquered the world of music videos. It’s only a matter of time until he conquers the world of movies.
While his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles made his feature film debut in the war drama “Dunkirk” earlier this year, with his music video for his brand new song “Dusk Till Dawn” featuring Sia, it seems like Zayn is ready to take on the role of being an action movie star.
This exciting music video for the infectious new track is directed by Marc Webb, who hasn’t done a music video in seven years. But that’s only because he’s been working on TV shows and films, including the huge blockbuster hits “The Amazing Spider-Man” and its sequel. Now it’s all becoming quite clear how this music video is as amazing as it is, right?
If you need further proof that this music video will blow your mind, then sit back and take in this play-by-play of pure mini-movie goodness that Zayn, his costar Jemima Kirke and director Webb give us.
The video starts off with Zayn opening up a briefcase, then staring out a window, looking out at Jemima Kirke’s character, who also has a briefcase. He then heads out into the streets with his, but has to change course when he notices guys with earpieces hot on his tail.
As he heads down a back alley, he sees Kirke, who is about to be caught by police, but she is able to escape. When the police start looking at Zayn next, he simply waves before the video switches to a scene straight out an action flick.
“Your life in the daytime is over,” the police tell Zayn as he sits in a chair in a dusty, secluded garage-like room. “There’s eyes on you everywhere, you know that, right? I’m watching you. My crew’s watching you. You know your little homies? They’re pissed off. They mad at you bro. Your name is mud on these streets. Oh, I know who you are.”
“You don’t know me,” an unintimidated Zayn simply responds.
After that mic drop of a line, we see Kirke head into a motel room, where she checks to make sure she has the correct items in her briefcase at the same time that the police are going through Zayn’s briefcase to find only clothing. The police check Zayn’s hand, looking for something specific, but realize that it doesn’t match the photo of a hand they have on file. With nothing to hold him, they let him go.
He heads into his jaguar to speed away, without being tailed. When he finally makes his way to a house, he sets a phone dialed to 911 on the ledge of a counter before setting an explosive trap for the men who are following him and — in true movie fashion — escaping through a hole in the floor.
The plan works perfectly and Zayn is next seen sitting shotgun in a convertible alongside Kirke, as they make a clean getaway and ride off into the sunset.
Criminals might not always win in the movies, but it looks like Zayn is about ready to change that. If he decides to turn this music video into a full-length feature film, that is. And if this five-and-a-half-minute version is any indication, then the movie would be a blockbuster hit. Especially if Webb came back as director.
Is the next “Mission Impossible” film looking for a new sidekick? Zayn looks like he’s ready to jump right in as the lead of an action film franchise.
First, though, Zayn has to finish working on his next album, the follow-up to his solo debut, “Mind of Mine.” It’s okay, we can wait. It’ll be hard, but it’ll be worth it.
