Zombiecon 2011 Brings Out the New York Undead

Dozens of New Yorkers, set in their best corpse makeup and fake blood outfit, gathered Saturday afternoon for a day of drinking and playing undead known as Zombiecon. The event coincided with several loosely related happenings about town. New York’s Comic-con was also slated for this past weekend as was a mass march on Times Square supporting the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, which many zombies attended.

New Yorkers’ creativity was out in full display, with people dressing up as zombie cheerleaders, zombie strippers, zombie chefs and zombie game show contestants. Officially, the gathering was medieval-themed.

Also apparent was New Yorkers’ jaded attitude. Very few who saw the assembled undead stopped to ask. The event was large in attendance compared to previous years. Similar zombie conventions in other cities, including one in Fort Myers, Florida, the same day, have attracted thousands.
