ZTE Axon 7 Upgraded With More RAM, Storage And Force Touch Display
ZTE just updated its flagship Android smartphone, the Axon 7. The newest iteration of the handset comes with upgraded specs and most notably, a pressure-sensitive Force Touch display.
The upgraded ZTE Axon 7 is much like the OnePlus 3T — it’s a refresh of a handset that was released just this year and it looks the same as its predecessor but packing some better hardware. The new version of the Axon 7 comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage instead of the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage combination.
The most interesting change with the new version of the ZTE Axon 7 is the addition of the pressure-sensitive display. A Force Touch display on an Android smartphone is not unheard of. Huawei did that for the Mate S last year, as well as for the P9 Plus this year, as pointed out by Android Central. Huawei implemented the technology like Apple’s iOS by enabling app shortcuts when users press on an app hard enough.
For ZTE’s new Axon 7, the Chinese manufacturer says that its Force Touch display will be able to deliver a “more intuitive user experience.” The company didn’t give out any more details on the functionality of the pressure-sensitive display on the Axon 7. It’s possible that the new tech will simply function like Huawei’s.
Aside from the upgraded RAM, storage and the addition of the Force Touch display, the new version of the Axon 7 is pretty much the same as the original. It still comes with a 5.5-inch quad HD AMOLED screen with a Snapdragon 820 processor, 20MP/8MP cameras, fingerprint sensor and Android Marshmallow.
“As ZTE continuously receives and listens to consumer feedback, we’re providing an option for those that love the Axon 7 to experience it on an optimized and enhanced level,” ZTE USA CEO Lixin Cheng reportedly said. “As the first ZTE device to arrive in the U.S. with Force Touch technology, the Axon 7 lineup continues to showcase ZTE’s innovation in the handset market.”
The Force Touch ZTE Axon 7 will be available exclusively from zteusa.com for $499, which is $100 more than the original. The company says that the the new handset will only be available in limited quantities.
