Michelle Obama recently gave a heartbreaking response when asked by Oprah Winfrey about what her time in the White House was like.

Barack Obama served as the president of the United State for eight years, which means that Michelle served as the FLOTUS during that same period of time.

The ex-FLOTUS said that being able to live at the White House and serve the country was one of the biggest privileges of her life. But the mom of two didn’t also deny the fact that those eight years were hard, and they took a toll on her.

Other than serving the nation, Michelle said that raising a family together with her husband also took its toll on her. However, the former first lady is still lucky to have been married to the ex-POTUS.

“But if you’re with the person, if you know why you’re with them, you understand that there is a friendship and a foundation there. That may feel like it goes away during those hard times, but it’s something that we always come back to,” she said.

Michelle also made headlines this past weekend after one of her most controversial comparisons with Melania Trump were revisited. Four years ago, “Free, Melania” author Kate Bennett said that Donald Trump’s wife is not as appealing to the voters as Barack’s wife.

“Mrs. Obama even earned the nickname, ‘The Closer,’ for her ability to seal the deal those on the fence. It’s not easy to be funny on the fly, like Michelle Obama could be during late-night TV interviews, or to have the kind of presence Jackie Kennedy had,” she said.

Bennett went on to justify her comparisons by saying that netizens don’t hear much about Melania. And to be fair, Jackie Kennedy also seemed awkward at first, but she eventually grew into her role as the first lady and had a blast performing her duties.

“I don't see that same joie de vivre from Melania, but it could surface,” she concluded.
