A 1-year-old child in Oklahoma was fighting for his life after he was allegedly attacked by his neighbor's dog Sunday.

J.J. Rodriquez was playing outside his home with his siblings when he was attacked by the canine. The toddler was attacked by the Pit bull-type dog, who left the child with appalling injuries.

When the cops arrived at the scene, they found the injured child behind the house, officer Aaron Brilbeck, who works with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, said.

The 1-year-old was then rushed to the hospital, where he was scheduled to undergo multiple surgeries. The child was said to be in critical condition.

“It’s very traumatizing for the whole family,” Delfina Wright, the victim’s grandmother, said, according to KFOR. “He’s only one, he’s a baby. ... He can’t breathe on his own.”

Rodriquez's grandmother added something like this should have never happened, News 9 reported.

"I talked to my son-in-law, and he said he's never going to be the same again," Delfina Wright said. "What does that tell you."

“I just I heard a man screaming,” Charles Rankin, a neighbor who witnessed the attack, reportedly said. “It shook everything, I can’t even talk about it.”

The police said this wasn't the first time the neighborhood had problems with the dog running loose.

“Police been called here numerous times. He’s been cited several times for about three weeks and honestly it was just a matter of time before something like this happened,”officer Brilbeck. “It was a horrible, horrible attack, no child should have to undergo pain and the terror of being attacked by a dog like that.”

Authorities said the dog responsible for the attack will be euthanized. The police are also investigating if the dog's owners should face any charges.

A 6-year-old boy in New Mexico was mauled to death in November by at least one dog near his family’s residence. Deputies were called to a house in a Mesilla Park neighborhood on reports of a small child being mauled by a dog. The officers found the boy with several injuries to his upper body. The boy was administered CPR and then airlifted to a Children’s hospital in El Paso. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
