1-Year-Old Girl Dead, Her 9-Year-Old Brother Injured In Accidental Shooting
A 1-year-old girl was found dead and her 9-year-old brother wounded in Texas, in what the police believe to be a case of accidental shooting.
The girl was shot in the head in her home near Forney on Tuesday, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office said. The 9-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, CBS owned-and-operated KTVT reported. There were no adults in the house at the time of the shooting. Another sibling of the 1-year-old girl and a neighbor — both minors — were also in the house at the time.
Investigator Jolie Stewart said medical teams performed CPR on the 1-year-old child before airlifting her to a hospital, KTVT reported.
There has been no word on where the parents were and no criminal charges have been filed at this point. Officials did not say who they thought accidentally shot the child, and no details about how the shooting happened have been released, NBC owned-and-operated KXAS-TV reported.
Recently, in another incident of accidental shooting in East St. Louis, Illinois, an eight-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was shot by his younger brother. Police officers arrived at a home after receiving information about a shooting incident.
The officers reached the scene and found the boy with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment and was said to be in a stable condition. Preliminary investigation showed the boy and his 4-year-old brother were playing with a loaded handgun inside the home when the weapon accidentally discharged and hit the elder sibling.
The two were allegedly filming a video in the bathroom when the weapon discharged, media reports said. The weapon allegedly belonged to a family member. However, it remained unclear how the siblings got hold of it.
In another incident, a 5-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was accidentally shot by her father in the arm in Edmonds, Washington. The 36-year-old man removed the gun from its holster to secure the weapon in a safe when it accidentally discharged.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the girl before taking her to a nearby hospital. Police said the victim's mother and two other children were also present at the home when the incident took place.
