10-Year-Old Boy Shot In Sacramento: Eric Raya Ramirez In Critical Condition
A 10-year-old California boy was in critical condition Tuesday after he was shot at a birthday party Saturday night, and witnesses said it looked as if the child was the gunman’s target.
Eric Raya Ramirez, 10, was shot at least four times in the lower back and leg and is in critical condition following surgery, CBS Sacramento reported.
The 10-year-old was shot on the front lawn of a home in the Sacramento suburb of North Highlands, Calif., where he was attending a relative’s birthday party.
Kids were playing in the front yard when a man in a black Acura pulled up to the home and fired several shots at Eric, according to CBS Sacramento. Police have no suspects in the shooting.
Kyle Rus, who lives across the street from the house where the party was being held, said the gunman appeared to be targeting Eric.
“He was aiming at the kid – that’s all we know,” he told CBS Sacramento.
Rus’ twin brother, Bradford, heard the shots and tried to help the 10-year-old before an ambulance arrived at the scene.
“They wrapped the [wound] on the leg, turned him over and found three on his back. So they held pressure until the ambulance got there,” Kyle Rus said.
Rus said Eric’s family watched in horror as the 10-year-old was shot.
“And they were all in so much shock they couldn’t react. My brother and my mom were the only people who moved,” he said.
