101 Dachshunds Seized In Puppy Breeding Crackdown
More than 100 dachshunds trapped in small cages have been rescued from illegal puppy farms in police raids done across Greater Manchester.
The dogs have been possessed by the RSPCA, and are being taken care of in kennels across the region.
The dogs were being held by several breeders, so nine homes were raided by 30 police officers, trading standards, and RSPCA officers during a big crackdown on illegal puppy breeding.
The raid occurred after locals complained for months, thus sparking an investigation into the matter.
Their owners trapped the puppies in Rochdale, Oldham, and Haywood areas. The raid came days after media outlets revealed mini dachshunds are being dumped in rescue centers by owners that bought them only for the social media currency the puppies afforded them on Instagram for a time.
Mark Widdup, director of neighborhoods at the Rochdale council, claimed it was pleasing they have been able to implement the warrants successfully and place the dogs into a more humane place.
The dogs are no longer available for adoption, considering they are still part of an ongoing investigation. Along with being looked after in approved kennels, they are also going through the appropriate health checks.
One of the spokespersons for the RSPCA gave a statement concerning the raid, which involved the police department and partner agencies implementing warrants on addresses in Oldham, Heywood, and Little Hulton.
They, however, claimed they are currently unable to comment while inquiries on the situation continue.
It is not the first time Dachshunds have been involved in a scandal. In 2016, Grace Banks made more than 500,000 euros selling sick puppies to unsuspecting owners from her home in Oldham, Lancashire.
She was instructed to pay the sum back to her victims within three months and also banned from selling dogs for life.
A few years earlier, there was a raid for illegal puppy selling that was done at Bentley Hall Farm in Bury, Greater Manchester. The breeders, in this case, were found selling upwards of 400 Border Collies, Alaskan Malamutes, and Labradors kept in inhumane situations.
For the present case, anyone that has bought a dachshund in the Rochdale borough in the previous 12 months is being asked to call on the council’s environmental health team.
The Lucy law campaign also aims to end the puppy farming trade by making it illegal for dealers to sell the puppies bought from the commercial breeders.
A large blow was dealt to the puppy breeders considering the confirmation that Wales joined England in enacting of Lucy’s law.
