A 12-year-old Malaysian boy was arrested Monday for raping a four-year-old girl after being aroused from watching porn on a mobile phone.

Police said the incident came to light Friday when the victim complained about pain in her private parts after returning home from nursery. Her mother took the girl to the hospital for a check-up where it was revealed the girl was raped. Following this, the woman filed a police complaint.

She then went to meet the girl’s babysitter and her son, who confessed to the crime. The unnamed boy said he got aroused after watching porn on the phone. Police said the crime was committed on three occasions at the boy’s parents’ bedroom, the last one of which took place on June 17. Doctors believe a blunt object was also inserted into the victim’s private parts.

The suspect’s mother was running the nursery for several years and was babysitting the victim since October 2017 alongside other children aged between two and 11. Speaking to media Tuesday, Dr. Wan Azizah, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said the nursery was unregistered.

“The nursery was taking care of eight children, and Welfare Department officers are now seeing how to care for the best interests of the other children as well as the victim. And we are in the process of shutting down the nursery,” Azizah said, adding that parents should monitor children’s usage of devices such as smartphones. “If parents want to give smartphones to children, don’t do so without parental control," she said.

Meanwhile, the boy remained in custody as of Tuesday night as the investigation was ongoing.
