It’s Based On A Novel
Netflix’s upcoming series is based on the 2007 book from Jay Asher, “Thirteen Reasons Why,” which became a New York Times bestseller in 2011. The novel went on to win a number of awards including best books for young adults, California book award for young adults and Kirkus Reviews editor’s choice.
Selena Gomez Serves As Executive Producer
In 2011, Universal Studios purchased the film rights with Gomez set to play the lead role of Hannah Baker, but in 2015, Netflix announced it would be making a television adaptation without the singer acting. Instead, Gomez will serve as an executive producer on the series.
Gomez Is Part Of The Soundtrack
While the singer won’t be acting in the series, she will be featured on the show’s soundtrack. On Wednesday, Gomez tweeted a teaser for the series featuring a cover of the song “Only You.”
The Cast Also Includes Some Big Names
While the majority of the cast is made up of young actors, “13 Reasons Why” also features some veterans. Kate Walsh of “Grey’s Anatomy” fame plays the role of Hannah’s grieving mother while Brian D’Arcy plays Hannah’s father.
