A teenager from Michigan was charged with murder for allegedly stabbing her grandmother to death in her bedroom on Feb. 21.

The police arrested the 14-year-old girl, who has not been publicly identified, on charges of first and second-degree murder for stabbing Cynthia Mosby, 65, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced as per NBC News.

Mosby's son, the suspect's father, found the victim's body with multiple stab wounds on Feb. 22. The teenage girl was not at home when the discovery was made. Cops later found her at a motel located 20 miles away from the scene.

"The fatal stabbing of Mosby is very sad and disturbing. Mosby was a nurse who was raising her granddaughter. Our prayers go out to her son and family," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

"It is alleged that she planned the crime, and that on February 21, 2021 the respondent killed her grandmother by stabbing her multiple times with a kitchen knife," Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said.

The teenager will be charged as "adult designated," which allows the judge to sentence her as a juvenile, adult or somewhere in between if convicted.

"In this case, the 14-year-old girl is being adult designated because upon conviction it gives the judge the most flexibility during sentencing to provide options for rehabilitation of this very troubled youth," Worthy said.

The suspect will also undergo a mental health evaluation before she appears in court on April 15.

The suspect's father said that he thinks his daughter may have been upset with Mosby pushing her to focus on her studies, reported Click On Detroit.

The neighbors remember Mosby as a cheerful woman who always had a smile on her face.

The U.S law defines first-degree murder as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning or "lying in wait" for the victim. The first-degree murder charge takes into account factors like willfulness, deliberation and premeditation during the crime.
