A teenage Nigerian nanny strangled the baby in her care to death and claimed the cult group, to which she belonged, demanded his blood from her.

The 14-year-old nanny, identified as Chiamaka, confessed to killing the baby using witchcraft, after which she was arrested in Lagos.

The six-month-old infant’s mother had brought the nanny to their house to work as a house help and take care of the baby boy, Jayden Osokolo, according to Sahara Reporters. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police revealed details about the incident at a press briefing Monday.

“On February 6, 2022, the 14-year-old nanny strangled the baby kept in her custody. The suspect confessed to be a member of the Ogoloma cult group in Enugu, Enugu State. During interrogation, she disclosed that members of the cult group requested her to bring the blood of the deceased to the spiritual world hence she carried out the dastardly act.”

The teenager spoke about how she began having ties with the witchcraft coven and how they led her to take the life of the infant in her care.

“I used witchcraft power to kill the baby,” Chiamaka said, according to Vanguard News. “When I was in primary school, during break time, one of my friends gave me a packet of biscuits and drink. At night I found myself in Ugolama witchcraft coven. They welcomed me.”

Chiamaka said she left her village on Jan. 7 to work as a nanny. “Before leaving the village, I was told to donate blood to the coven,’ she continued. “But I begged them to give me another assignment, that I would not want to shed blood. So, they said I should be making people sad.”

The teenager went on to say that members of the coven “appeared” on March 5 and claimed they wanted the baby.

“I begged them to leave him alone but they said they would use my life as a ransom for the baby,” Chiamaka was quoted saying. “They gave me a bowl that I should call the baby’s name four times, when I did, blood appeared in the bowl and the baby died. The baby was donated to Ogolama witchcraft coven.”

The arrested nanny was paraded Tuesday along with 33 other suspects, caught for different crimes, Premium Times reported.
