A 17-year-old boy was charged as an adult on Friday after he confessed to fatally shooting a 16-year-old teenage boy. The incident took place at a home in Ogden, Utah, on March 14.

The accused, identified as 17-year-old Brandon Parker, admitted to killing his 16-year-old friend by shooting him in the head. According to court documents, the shooting took place at Parker’s house and his parents were reportedly in the house at the time of the shooting, however, they were asleep upstairs.

Ogden Police officers had responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot injury early morning on March 14. When they arrived at the scene, they found a teenager with a gunshot wound to his forehead. The victim, whose identity was not revealed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parker’s mother said he confessed to shooting his friend following the shooting. Parker had also reportedly tried to kill himself with the gun, however, his mother had wrestled the gun away from him and held onto it till police officers arrived.

“I don’t have the gun; I killed my best friend,” Parker had said to an officer present at the scene.

When he was being escorted to a patrol car, Parker uttered that he had killed his best friend and that he “shot him point-blank,” according to charging documents. He also told detectives that he used cocaine and DAB, a concentrated form of marijuana, prior to the shooting.

He was tried as an adult and was charged with murder, a first-degree felony, a third-degree felony, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The motive behind the shooting was not identified and the case was still under investigation. A blood sample was taken from the accused and the officials were awaiting the results of a toxicology examination.
