2 Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing Son Of Cigarette Seller Who Refused To Loan Matchbox
Two men have been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man to death after the victim's father, a cigarette seller, refused to loan the duo a matchbox.
The accused men, identified as Bhupinder Singh and Rinku from the Indian state of Punjab, approached the cigarette seller, Mukhtiar Singh, and asked for a matchbox Saturday. However, the vendor refused as the pair still owed him money, reported Hindustan Times.
After being denied a matchbox, the two men started an argument with the seller. Prince Kumar, who sold juice at a nearby store, came to his father's aid, Bhagwant Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Sohana police station, said as per the outlet.
The accused reportedly left the scene but later returned. It was then that the alleged stabbing took place.
"The duo left, but returned soon after from their workshop nearby and stabbed Prince in the abdomen several times," Singh added. "He was rushed to a private hospital in Sohana, where he was declared brought dead."
The victim, who was originally from the Indian state of Bihar, moved to Punjab for work and was living with this family. Authorities released his body to his family after an autopsy was completed.
Police arrested the accused men, according to a report from Times Now News. They have been charged under the Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done in furtherance of common intention).
As per the judge's order during the accused men's court appearance, they would be detained or remanded into police custody for three days, while authorities continue their investigation.
Earlier this month, an Indiana man allegedly stabbed his female neighbor to death over a petty argument regarding the victim's dog. The woman reportedly yelled at the suspect after he stepped on her pet in their apartment building in Seymour. An argument then ensued, during which the man stabbed the woman several times. Police received a 911 call from another woman who found the victim bleeding in the hallway of the apartment building. Responding officers tried to save her, but she eventually succumbed to her injuries.
