  • Drew McIntyre is the current WWE Champion
  • The Scottish fighter has won the title twice
  • McIntyre lost to Roman Reigns at the Survivor Series in 2020

Drew McIntyre has admitted that his "inevitable goal" is to dethrone Roman Reigns and win the WWE Universal Championship.

Reigns triumphed in the Universal Championship by defeating The Fiend Bray Wyatt at the WWE Payback on Aug. 30 last year. His title reign has so far lasted 485 days and he is on his way to breaking Brock Lesnar's 503-day record reign.

However, the two-time WWE Champion is determined to be the one who ends Reigns' incredible run as the Universal Champion.

"Specific goals? I mean, I've gotta mention the Universal Title. That's an obvious one. That's an inevitable goal. I ain't trying to rush there either. I'm just trying to keep on the path I'm on, growing that momentum. I can hear the crowds getting louder every week, like they were building up to WrestleMania in 2020, which was cool," McIntyre told Sportskeeda in an interview.

The 36-year-old regained the WWE Championship last year by beating Randy Orton in a no disqualification match, which led him to face the Universal Champion Reigns at Survivor Series in an Interbrand champion vs. champion match. McIntyre ended up losing the match via technical submission following interference from Jey Uso.

The Scottish fighter has repeatedly mentioned that he wants to avenge his WWE Survivor Series loss against Reigns.

McIntyre has also quite regularly mentioned in out-of-character interviews that he wants the company to hold a pay-per-view in the United Kingdom.

"Outside the ring, I've got big goals. Get that UK pay-per-view that I keep mentioning every time. I'm gonna make it happen one way or another. I won't shut up until it happens, and then when it finally happens I'll be like [cheers]," added McIntyre in the same interview.

McIntyre is set to face Madcap Moss at WWE Day 1 on Saturday. The event will also feature Brock Lesnar challenging Reigns for the Universal Championship. WWE Day 1 will take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be the company's first pay-per-view event to take place on New Year's Day.
