A 2-year-old child in Malaysia died Tuesday after falling down from a baby chair while at a restaurant.
The freak accident took place when the toddler was with his parents in Taman Sutera for lunch.
"They sat the victim in a baby chair for the meal," Johor Bahru North deputy police chief Fariz Ammar Abdullah said, according to the Straits Times. "About an hour later, the boy was said to have suddenly kicked the table, tipping the baby chair over.
"That was when the boy's head hit the ground, causing him to cry loudly before fainting," he said in a statement Wednesday.
The workers at the restaurant witnessed the incident, but couldn't do much to save the child.
The victim's father rushed the child to a private clinic nearby. However, the doctor at the clinic said the child's condition was serious and he must be taken to a speciality hospital.
"When the father brought the victim to a private hospital in Iskandar Puteri, the toddler was pronounced dead by a medical officer there," Abdullah said.
The body of the child was sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Authorities said no criminal charges have been filed against anyone, but an investigation was currently underway. The case has been classified as "sudden death," local media MotherShip reported.
Last month, a 2-year-old child in Tennessee died after being found unresponsive in a pool. The boy was declared dead by paramedics, who arrived at the scene along with officers from Bradley County Sheriff's Office. Bradley County E.M.S. and Bradley County Fire & Rescue found the child to be in an unresponsive state. The incident took place at the child's neighbor's home. It remained unclear as to how long the child had been in the pool. Lifesaving efforts were administered at the scene, following which the child was rushed to Tennova Hospital, where doctors tried to revive him. Doctors said the child was in critical condition. Despite efforts, the doctors could not save the child.
A cause of death was not revealed at the time. It also remains unclear where the child's parents were when the incident took place.
