A delivery man in Vietnam is hailed as a real-life superhero after saving a 2-year-old girl who fell from the 12th-floor balcony of an apartment building.
Nguyen Ngoc Manh, 31, was sitting in his car to deliver a parcel on Sunday evening when he saw the child hanging from the balcony. Manh quickly sprang into action and positioned himself to catch her. The video of his heroic rescue went viral on social media.
Manh reportedly heard a child screaming from the nearby building. He initially thought it was just a toddler's tantrum but soon noticed a woman crying out for help.
"I stuck my head out of the car, looking around, and saw a girl climbing out of the balcony. I plunged out of the car immediately and found ways to climb into the nearby building. I mounted on a 2-meter-high tile roof to seek a proper position to get the girl," Manh said as per Vietnam Times.
Manh then reached out his hands to catch the child, hoping to keep her from falling straight on the ground. He even lost his footing while standing on the tile roof.
"Luckily, the baby fell into my lap," Manh said. "I hurriedly embraced her then saw blood leaking from her mouth, I was very frightened."
The girl was rushed to the hospital where she is currently being treated for a dislocated hip. Her condition is now stable, according to local media reports.
"Everything happened within a minute. I didn't understand how I could scale the roof that quickly. I couldn't believe I saved the girl's life," VN Express quoted Manh as saying.
The incident was captured in a video taken from a nearby apartment. In the video, one could see the child climbing over the balcony railing and onto the building's thin ledge. The neighbors could be heard crying out to her as she began to hang onto the ledge for a few seconds before finally losing her grip.
Not long after the incident, Manh's life began to change. Many netizens now call him a hero, something he is not very comfortable with. His phone has also been flooded with messages from well-wishers who want to send him gifts. But Mahn has declined all of them.
"Some have sent me money via my phone number. This disorientates me. I don't want to receive any money I haven't earned by myself," he explained.
He believes that anyone would have done the same thing if they find themselves in the same situation.
"I don't see myself as a hero. I just want to do good," Manh said.
