A total of 875,000 Ram pickup trucks are being recalled anew by Fiat Chrysler to fix tailgates that open while it is being driven. The company has said that the affected units include the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 models from 2013 up to 2018.

Last year a total of 1.1 million trucks in the U.S. had been recalled for the same problem. Meanwhile, a total of 410,000 units were also called for repairs in May for the recurring issue.

As of now, a total of 2.4 million pickup trucks have been recalled, most of them coming from the U.S. and Canada.

Affected units from 2015 up to 2017 have 8-foot beds while models in the years 2013, 2014 and 2018 have beds of other sizes. Models that were built before April 2018 potentially have the faulty tailgate.

Fiat Chrysler has assured that no one was injured by the problem nor were involved with an accident. In their continued investigation, the Ram pickup's tailgate cab can fracture and cause the tailgates to unlatch while being driven.

An unlatched tailgate could potentially cause an accident, especially when the beds are loaded with heavy cargo. Dealers will repair the damaged units and owners will be sent letters starting on October 18 to notify them of the recall.

The issue came to Fiat Chrysler's attention when several owner reviews have said that their tailgates open while the trucks are being driven. Customer data has also shown that it has been occurring for some time now.

The company has reminded owners to secure all loose cargo before driving to ensure safety. According to the Chicago Tribune, the FCA has reiterated that lost baggage may pose danger on operators and occupants of other vehicles.

The company added that affected owners should send their pickup as soon as the notice arrives to repair the broken tailgates.
