24-year-old Attempts To Strangle Brother For Objecting To Her Making Instagram Reels
A 24-year-old woman in India was arrested after she attacked her two brothers, and attempted to kill one of them for objecting to her making Instagram reels, reports said.
The incident occurred in Kanpur, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. The woman, identified as Aarti Rajput, was arrested Monday after her brothers, Akash and Jaikishan filed a complaint with the police.
According to the brothers, Aarti was addicted to making videos of herself on Instagram and attacked them when they objected to it, The Times of India reported.
Akash said he questioned his sister after his friends made fun of her videos, and this is when Aarti attacked and allegedly attempted to strangle him. When their brother intervened, Aarti attacked him as well, according to the criminal complaint.
When the woman was brought to the police station, she attacked Akash again in front of the cops and manhandled the female deputies when they tried to intervene, Latest LY reported.
"Two cases have been registered against her. One case has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) and the other for second beating up the female constable, tearing her uniform, and obstructing government work. Aarti was arrested and sent to jail on Monday," senior investigating officer Amod Kumar Singh said.
According to the police, the brothers also complained that Aarti was acting weird with their father of late and was neglecting her family because of her addiction to social media.
"When she went overboard while using the app, her brothers tried to reason with her to restrict its use. However, they claimed that Aarti refused to let go of the app, and on Sunday, she crossed the limit when she tried to kill her brother," the officer added.
In another case of social media addiction, the parents of a Wisconsin teen who died by suicide filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Meta Platforms Inc., the owners of Instagram and Facebook, and Snapchat Inc, in April. 17-year-old Christopher J. Dawley, who was extremely active on social networking platforms, shot himself in 2015. The parents alleged that the companies should be held responsible for the death of their son.
