A 4-year-old boy in Utrecht, Netherlands, was found walking the street in his pajamas and bare feet after he took his mom’s car for a joyride and crashed into two parked cars.

In an Instagram post, police said the boy was the “new Max Verstappen,” linking him to the 2021 Dutch world champion Formula One driver.

“New Max Verstappen found in (the Utrecht suburb of) Overvecht,” police wrote in the post.

According to reports, the boy had woken up on Saturday when his father had gone to work, taking his mom’s car keys to go for a drive.

The authorities were called when the young boy was spotted walking alone in the cold, and this is when the police connected the boy to the accident, BBC News reported.

Here, officers realized that an abandoned vehicle nearby that had hit two cars was registered to the boy’s mother, according to reports.

When the police let the boy talk to his mother on a phone call, he mimicked driving the car, acting as if he was turning a steering wheel, the news outlet said.

“We then realized that the child may have been the driver,” police wrote in the Instagram post as translated by the BBC.

The police took the boy to the crash scene and asked if he could show how the car worked. The boy opened the car door, put the key into the car’s ignition, and put his foot on the clutch and pushed down the accelerator, police said.

The boy’s mother told the Guardian that her son was “highly enterprising.”

Before being reunited with his mom, the boy was given some hot chocolate and a teddy bear by police.

Police urged the boy’s parents to hide their car keys in the future. “Fortunately, this mini driver's adventure has come to an end with a sizzle,” police added in the Instagram post.
