An eight-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five minor boys in Dehradun, the capital city of the north Indian state of Uttarakhand. The boys, aged between nine and 14, watched porn on a mobile two days ago before luring the girl to a friend's house.

According to the Times of India, Naresh Rathore, in charge of Sahaspur police station, said: "Those boys targeted the girl as they were aware that she remains alone in the house during that period of the day... They had planned the crime a couple of days earlier."

“One of the boys stood to guard house’s main door while other took turns to rape her. When they were committing the crime, one of the boys saw the elder brother of 10-year-old accused coming towards the house. Then they asked the girl to go home,” Rathore said.

The boys, who all lived in the same area, reportedly approached the girl Thursday when they saw her playing outside her house, police said. The girl's parents were not at home when the incident took place.

The incident came to light when the girl's parents noticed some behavior change in their child, police said.

On Sunday, the five minor boys were taken into custody and a case of rape was registered under India's Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The young victim is said to be recovering from her ordeal at home.

Earlier this year, nationwide anger erupted after the gang-rape, torture and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district. Police filed charges against eight men in April in the January case.

In another similar incident earlier this month, a four-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by four minor boys in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The boys between the ages of six and 10 were later sent to a juvenile home by police.
