The Samsung Galaxy S8 is unique in many ways — it is the only smartphone with an edge-to-edge display, Bluetooth 5.0 and a 10nm processor currently. A lesser known fact is that the device is also capable of higher mobile internet speeds than a typical 4G device.

Cashing on this feature, AT&T rolled out its ‘5G Evolution’ plans for the device in Austin, Texas Tuesday.

“Our 5G Evolution in Austin gives our customers a taste of the future. With 5G Evolution from AT&T you don’t have to wait to experience endless entertainment possibilities on the next generation network when you have the latest devices,” David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Entertainment Group stated in a press release.

While the company has not revealed the exact speed that it will providing with the plans, it claims that 5G capable devices will experience twice the internet speed of the AT&T 4G LTE network. Of the current lot of devices, only Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are capable of accessing the 5G Evolution speeds.

However, according to Phone Arena, there is a difference between what AT&T is offering and actual 5G — a mobile internet speed standard, which hasn’t even been finalized yet and doesn't exist at present. Simply, what AT&T is offering in the name of 5G Evolution, might be faster 4G.
