‘The 5th Wave’ Movie Trailer Shows Chloe Grace Moretz Fighting Back Against The End Of The World
LAS VEGAS -- At the start of the “The 5th Wave” trailer Chloe Grace Moretz portrays a typical teenage girl, attending high school and pursuing a relationship with her dream boy. Everything in her life appears to be going according to plan, until her entire world unexpectedly comes crashing down. During a news broadcast it is revealed that there is an unknown object circling the earth, a sign of the end of times.
“The 5th Wave,” based on the young adult sci-fi novel by Rick Yancey, portrays Moretz as Cassie Sullivan, a 16-year-old girl who is faced with the end of the world and the unknown powers behind it. In the trailer, which was released at CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, in Las Vegas Wednesday by Sony Pictures, Cassie and her family can be seen living through the initial waves.
The first wave causes technology failures. In one sequence, a jetliner can be seen falling out of the sky and exploding nearby the young heroine. The second wave involves earthquakes of epic proportions and the third, a rapid spread of an unknown disease. After the teaser shows a high body count laid out on the streets, it is revealed that the fourth wave is when the “invasion” begins.
“I want to be ready,” Moretz’s character says in the teaser as she is shown learning to fight back.
Despite her attempt to fight against mankind’s enemies, it is teased nothing can stop the inevitable end of days.
“If the fifth wave succeeds, humanity will be wiped from the face of the earth,” Live Schreiber, who plays Colonel Vosch in the film, says.
The final scene in the trailer shows Moretz holding up a handgun and approaching an unknown figure, saying, “What are you?”
“The 5th Wave” is directed by J Blakeson. The film also stars Ron Livingston, Maika Monroe, Maggie Siff and Nick Robinson. The sci-fi/thriller is scheduled to make its debut in theaters January 29, 2016.
