6-Year-Old Boy Killed In 'Human Sacrifice' By 2 Men To Get Rich
Two men in India are accused of murdering a 6-year-old boy to offer him as a "human sacrifice" in exchange for "prosperity," police said.
The horrific slaying in India's capital city of Delhi came to light after the boy's father spotted blood and discovered the body inside the suspects' shed Saturday. "Why did they have to sacrifice my son? What harm had the child done to them?" he told The Hindu.
The father, a construction worker, was staying with his family in a shed near a construction site when the incident took place.
The two suspects, Vijay Kumar and Amar Kumar, were also working at the same construction site and staying in a nearby shed.
The suspects were under the influence of drugs when "Vijay had a 'vision' about the murder," a police officer said.
Vijay claimed God spoke to him in the vision and asked them to "sacrifice a child" if they want to be rich, police said.
When the suspects saw the 6-year-old boy walking near their shed, they "dragged him inside and, together, the two men slit his throat and also hit him on the head with a hard object," a police officer was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The child's father eventually noticed that his son was missing. "We searched for him everywhere. Later, I found blood coming out of their house," the father told Indian Express. "I went in and found them pushing my son's body under a cot. I screamed for help..."
The child's father said he and his family had recently moved to Delhi to earn a better living.
"We came to Delhi around four-five weeks ago," the father added. "Our family never fought with anyone. Why did they kill my son?"
"Initially, when I was searching for my boy and found blood oozing out of their (accused) shed, I thought they were slaughtering a hen," the victim's mother told the outlet. "I was shocked to find my boy there. He died on the spot."
Cops arrived at the scene and found the victim's body.
"The body of a child was found lying at the construction site and his parents were crying. There was visible injury to the child's neck and head," a police officer said.
Vijay and Amar were arrested in connection with the murder.
A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene along with the clothes that the suspects were wearing while allegedly taking the child's life.
