60-Year-Old Crushed To Death By 200-Pound Man Falling From Terrace
In a bizarre incident, an elderly man died after a man weighing almost 200 pounds accidentally fell on him from the third-floor terrace of a building in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The elderly man, identified as 60-year-old Madan Lal, had stepped out of his home along with his granddaughter to play. However, the girl soon felt sleepy and Lal took her back into the home. Lal then came outside and slept on a cycle cart. Suddenly, a man from the adjacent building’s third floor fell on him, crushing him to death. Both the men were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the residents of the area. While Lal was declared brought dead, the man who fell on him, identified as Ravinder, was admitted with fractures.
Recalling the incident, a neighbor said, “I initially thought a portion of the wall had fallen on him. When I ran out, I saw this man lying on Lal. He seemed to be drunk and could barely move. We managed to roll him over and pull out Lal.”
“If his granddaughter had slept with Lal, the same fate would have befallen her," the neighbor added.
During interrogation, Ravinder told police he was talking on a call sitting on the edge of the terrace when he lost his balance and fell down. The autopsy revealed that Lal’s internal organs were damaged and his rib cage was broken.
Neighbors said Lal shifted to the rented home 10 years back and he was helping his son run a small business from their home. Lal’s wife too died a few years back. Meanwhile, police said the investigation was ongoing under section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure which deals with unnatural death.
