KEY POINTS

  • Loot quality and rarity are determined by Loot Stage
  • Loot Stage increases together with Game Stage
  • Loot Stage is affected by bonus modifiers like perks

Looting lies at the heart of the core gameplay in “7 Days To Die,” but not many players know about the many nuances behind it.

The quality and kind of loot players can get in the game depend on something called Loot Stage, which is dictated by a player’s current Game Stage. High Game Stage values will give players the best chances to get high-tier loot.

Early in the game, it doesn’t matter if players raid a weapons factory or a hospital. If their Game Stage is low, they will not get anything outside of basic stone equipment, a few piles of ammunition and other supplies they can otherwise get elsewhere.

This also means that raiding large points of interest is typically not worth it unless players can make their way to treasure rooms via building shortcuts or breaking blocks. However, difficult POIs do have higher Loot Stage bonuses depending on the POI itself and the type of biome it is in.

Loot Stage is affected by skills, items and other factors that give Loot bonuses. Lucky Looter, Eye Kandy, Lucky Goggles and the aforementioned POI and biome bonuses all contribute to increased Loot Stage values without necessarily making the game more difficult for the players.

The type of containers that players loot also affects the items they get. In “7 Days To Die,” players can expect specific item types to spawn more often in containers that make sense; guns and ammo can be found in ammo racks, medicine can be found in med cabinets and so on.

Such containers also have “tiers” that affect the quality, amount and type of loot inside them. For example, a large weapons locker may have better-quality loot than a small weapons bag.

When playing with a party, the Loot Stage of the player with the highest Loot Stage value will take priority regardless of who opens a container, which is great when partying with low-level friends.

Take note that the Lucky Looter perk has very little value early in the game when Loot Stages are low. On the other hand, it becomes more useful later in the game since it can be stacked with other loot bonuses.
