8-Year-Old Boy Catches Enormous Tiger Shark Weighing 692 Pounds, Breaks Record
An 8-year-old boy from Sydney caught an enormous tiger shark weighing 314 kg (692-pounds) possibly setting a new world record.
Jayden Millauro and his dad Jonathan were on a fishing trip at a secret location off the coast of New South Wales, about 100 miles south of Sydney, when he managed to reel in the enormous tiger shark.
As soon as they spotted the shark, Jayden, who weighs only about 40 kgs (88 pounds), grabbed the rod to catch the shark which was almost seven times his weight. He used a 15 kg fishing line to pull the shark onto the boat while the other men on board harnessed him.
"The adrenaline was pumping from the moment we all spotted the shark at the boat," Jayden’s dad told Nine News.
Jayden, who is the youngest member of the local Port Hacking Game Fishing Club, held himself by pushing off the wall in the boat. He realized that the shark was his biggest catch so far, however, he did not realize how big it was till they weighed it after returning to the shore.
According to Nine News, Jayden has possibly broken the International Game Fish Association's junior and smallfry category record held by Ian Hissey since 1997 when he caught a 312kg (687 pounds) tiger shark.
Jayden’s catch will be a new world record once it has been verified and approved. Jayden has been learning to catch fish since he was 18 months old.
Though they are one of the largest species of shark in the world, tiger sharks are not a protected species in Australia. The largest tiger sharks can weigh up to 1900 pounds and grow to a size of 20-25 feet.
It is considered to be the most dangerous shark after the great white. They have been declared as threatened in many regions because of the high harvestation rates of these sharks and their low repopulation rates.
The tiger sharks are hunted fins, skin, flesh and liver to process into vitamin oil (Vitamin A).
